Blackpool - better late than never!
Jul. 12th, 2006 09:51 pmLindsay pointed me towards a BBC drama of a couple of years ago, and Tesco DVD Rental provided me with the first three episodes.
This show is weird and seedy, and the main character is extremely unpleasant.
And then there's David Tennant. His character drops litter (a real pet hate of mine), he's wilfully deceiving someone in the hopes of wooing her (never a good plan) and I can't get used to the broad Scottis accent, but he's by far the best of a bad bunch, and he's David Tennant. I've seen him be strange and compelling in Casanova, I've seen him be excitable and compelling in Doctor Who, and now I've seen him dressed in a tux, singing his little heart out to Sarah Parish.
I am undone.
On top of that, the story is intriguing, the characters are well drawn, the scripting is tight, and the singing is very much the right kind of bizarre.
Roll on disc two!

I think he just has this undefinably quirky charisma that makes him fascinating (and sometimes it works against him too my mum finds him really irritating as both Who and Casanova), a bit like that bloke off Scrubs/Garden State whose surname I can never spell.
