First of all, a big thank you to [livejournal.com profile] cholten99 for doing techie stuff last night, which means this entry comes to you from my own lovely PC, now installed in Enfield next to the secondary TV/DVD player! Yay!

Anyway, anybody who isn't interested in me rambling about incredibly old Buffy episodes should look away now.

Buffy never appealed to me when it first started. I only got on board when Angel got his own show, which is why the first episodes of Buffy I saw were the second half of Season 4. Then there was slight confusion when I somehow missed Season Five, caught Season Six but then failed to watch Season Seven.

So, when [livejournal.com profile] cholten99 and his Complete Box Set turned up, I decided to rectify the situation. I wasn't interested enough to start from the beginning so I just filled the gaps last year with Five and Seven.

A couple of weeks ago, though, I decided it was finally time to find out how it all began, so I borrowed the Box Set again and am working my way through One, Two and Three.

It was really weird watching Season One, when I already knew the characters so well and all the relationships were so incredibly different. It took me more than an entire season to get on board with Xander and Cordelia being an item, and I'd never seen Spike actually being properly evil before.

Then Oz turned up, and things took on a whole new slant. I knew he existed, but I wasn't expecting him to be so cute or so lovely. Then Season Three started and my new-found devotion to Oz has caused a bit of a problem. I used to like Willow and Xander, but I just watched "Lover's Walk" and now they're totally on my hit list. I realise Willow has been in love with Xander forever, and that him suddenly finding her attractive must have been very difficult to resist - but she had Oz!! And he's so much cuter, and sweeter and lovelier than Xander - how could she bear to hurt him? And Xander is even worse - he'd managed to catch Cordelia and almost turn her into a nice person, but then decided to screw everything up by noticing Willow two years too late!

Grr! Aargh!

Unfortunately, I know Oz and Cordelia aren't in it any more after Season Three, and I really like Willow and Xander in Seasons Four onwards. It's not fair!

I guess I'll just have to watch Four to Seven again to find some closure...

Of course, what would be even better would be if some especially nice person would let me borrow their Angel Box Set so I could revisit all the chocolately goodness that can be found there - especially since I'm currently watching "The Wish" and Angel just got dusted!

Ah well - I get paid next week - maybe I could buy an Angel Box Set of my very own!

I'm sure you are welcome to borrow my Angel set.
Otherwise I'm never going to get my OU work done! :-)

Aha! You fell into my not very subtle at all trap!! Mwahahahahaaha!

In other words, I was hoping you would say that and you're an absolute star. :o)

I was going to offer to subject to argeement from Mark who's box sets they technically are - he usually agrees to it so wouldn't have been a problem.

Totally argee about Oz - I loved him so much that it took me a long time to warm to Tara although I did end up loving her too in the end. As for Willow and Xander - it's also something that got mentioned in a discussion I had with Xander fan that I was not impressed with his conduct with Willow in s.3 or in general. I know a lot of people love Xander with good reason but I think there is a selfish streak in him that I can find it hard to get past on occasions. I guess it's the interesting and sometimes frustrating thing about Buffy fandom that everyone responds to characters in different ways.

I'm glad you are enjoying season three - I think it's the best season of Buffy by a long chalk although I have a strong love of the final season which seems to be unique to me and Mark. Happy Watching :-)

I think I like Season 4 best, probably because it was the first one I saw, so it's the one that's most familiar to me. I also really love the build-up of the relationship between Willow and Tara.

If I had to give a favourite I'd have to go with Season 2. There are better seasons, and certainly it became far more polished as the years passed, but Season 2 - or more specifically the 2nd half of Season 2, from 'Lie To Me' onwards - was where, for me at least, Buffy started to really fly . This is where it went from a well written and well acted but still fairly fluffy little fantasy to an extraordinary emotional rollercoaster.
This was way back when I watched Buffy weekly on BB2, so for about 3 months I was a complete emotional wreck. Nothing before or since has had that sort of impact me (for which I'm quite glad, cos I'm emotionally delicate at the best of times :) ), to the extent that, 6 years later, I get teary eyed and shivery just thinking about it. Not that I'm a sad obsessive or anything ;)

Do you want to know why physcologists think "Hush" is scary?

Then follow the white rabbit:

Interesting stuff.

"Hush" certainly scares the crap out of me.

Being attacked and not being able to scream is one of my recurring nightmares - and an enemy you can't hear coming just adds to that.

The specific bad guys in "Hush" just make it even worse - the fixed grins and the gliding are really horrible.

best place to put this

I know this is an old post but since it sort of relates to Buffyverse then I thought I'd stick it here.

This is the transcript of the interview with Joss Whedon published in the Metro yesterday - enjoy :-)
