alobear I picked up Slam by Nick Hornby in the great bookshop fiesta of last Saturday, and had to put it down again after about 100 pages.
The story was turgid, the style annoying, the characters idiotic and unlikeable, and the theme dire.
Not what I'd expect from Nick Hornby at all.
