Indiana Jones review
May. 25th, 2008 10:47 pmSomeone told me a few days ago that most of the reviews were saying the new Indiana Jones film was pretty bad. My response was that, since they were planning to make the new one consistent with the old ones in style and content, it would have to be, because Indiana Jones has always been pretty bad! (Let the outraged protests from die-hard fans commence!)
However, as usual, my theory of positive pessimism worked like a charm. If you go into the cinema thinking that a film is going to be terrible, it's impossible for you to be disappointed, and you're actually in with a chance of being pleasantly suprised. I can't say I disagree with the opinion that the new Indiana Jones film is pretty bad; however, I can say that I found parts of it to be almost fun, and that I left the cinema feeling mildly entertained.
I really could have done without the last scene, though (rarely, if ever, a good way to end a movie in my view), and "Mutt Williams and the Continuing Franchise of Doom" somehow doesn't have quite the same ring to it, so I'm hoping they'll let sleeping Harrisons lie. What really baffled me was why the special effects were so bad - was this part of the consistency with the original series? If so, I think it was a mistake, and I'm quite certain ILM can do better.
