Hawkwood and Poselthwaite reviews

alobearFinally got around to watching Brassed Off the other day - it was okay. I think the "grim up north, miners struggling with pit closure" storyline was done better in Billy Elliott and The Full Monty, but Pete Poselthwaite made Brassed Off worth watching.
In paper-based news, just finished Resurrectionist by James McGee. This is the second in the Hawkwook series, the first of which I picked up randomly in a spontaneous visit to Waterstones. They're about a Bow Street Runner investigating grisly murders in Regency London; they're violent, ridiculous and trashy, and I love them. Hawkwood is such a great character - though I think there was less characterisation in the second book than the first, and that was a disappointment. However, there were still swordfights, midnight chases through the city, prostitutes in mortal danger, insane army surgeons trying to bring people back from the dead, etc, etc. Great stuff.
