The Silver Surfer himself is one of the coolest things I've ever seen, and what little character development he got was really good. The rest of the film, though, was largely badly written nonsense. Julian MacMahon is very attractive when he's being evil, however.
The trailers provided some interest. It was amusing when the trailer for The Simpsons Movie came on - I leaned over to Dave and said, "You can go and see that one without me." The guy sitting next to Dave pointed to his wife and said, "He can go with her, if he likes!"
Then there was the Transformers trailer, which presented me with an ongoing internal conflict. I was desperately in love with Optimus Prime when I was very young, I counted many of the Autobots as close friends during my formative years - and I'm quite certain Michael Bay isn't going to present them in a way that's nostalgic for me. If you take the heart out of the Transformers, they're just big lumps of metal - no matter how cool the special effects, it's just not going to work for me without the depth of character I remember.
The question is, can I divorce my childhood memories from the film successfully enough to enjoy what I'm sure will be quite a spectacle?

Can you see a pattern to the reason I go see movies? :D

Date: 2007-06-17 10:55 pm (UTC)Significantly better than most of the Spiderman sequels,
really enjoyed it, but not that great a film.
Surfer was cool on his board but an utter drip without it.
Rather liked Julian McMahon being evil, if he isn't in whatever the third one is likly to be there won't be much to recommend it! :-)
I'm rather looking forward to transformers.
I never watched the original,
and I suspect I'll enjoy a nastier version much more than you will :-)
However, it does look like instead of making a children's film,
they've realised the audience that remembers it is mostly adult and are making the film for them. Well, hopefully.
