I actually almost fell asleep during the fight between Peter and Harry at the mansion in the middle - which may say more for the fact that I'm spending most of my time on the edge of unconsciousness at the moment than that the film was boring, but it's still not a good sign.
However, there were some things about it that I liked. I've never been fond of Harry, but I liked him all the way through this film and I thought his storyline was by far the most interesting. It was heartbreaking watching him being so happy when he'd lost his memory, and it was a real shame that he had to do the cliched sacrifice bit at the end because that was just annoying.
I've also never been that enamoured of fancy special effects, but the sequence where the Sandman came into being was extremely well done. The way he coalesced and then fell apart again, only gradually working out how to make himself a solid body was beatifully executed and contained a tremendous amount of emotive detail. I also very much liked the way he just disintegrated into the wind at the end - it was a poignant way to conclude his story.
Overall, though, the film felt amateurish to me. They tried to pack too much in and, consequently, didn't give any of it the time it deserved. Plus, the plot was so hackneyed and the direction so cliched that it wasn't really interesting, and it made me cringe in several places. Poor Kirsten Dunst must be so sick of falling and screaming by now - she deserves better.
