Wrapt In Crystal review

Wrapt In Crystal was published after the first three Samaria novels, but it feels like it was written earlier. I'm guessing she took advantage of the popularity of Samaria to get this one published. It's still good, and it has a lot of interesting things to say about religion and the nature of faith, but it's clumsier than the Samaria books and not as involved.
As per usual, the central mystery is so obvious that I guessed it straight away, and it actually annoyed me a little bit with this one, because the protagonist was supposed to be a skilled investigator and he missed the clues completely. He did call himself an idiot when he finally figured it out, but it was still a bit irritating.
Overall, I enjoyed this book a great deal since, as usual, it was the characters rather than the plot that held my interest, and the interactions between the three main people were absorbing and beautifully rendered. Definitely not her best, but still good.
