Angel-Seeker review

alobearThe last in the Samaria series by Sharon Shinn was annoyingly disappointing. I knew from the title that I wasn't likely to enjoy it as much as the others, since the Angel-Seekers have always been presented in a bad light in the other books, so having one as the heroine seemed a little odd.
The real problem with the book, though, was that it was missing a plot. All the others have a romantic strand (which describes the coming together of at least two different couples) and a political or mystery plot strand, which gives the book added depth and stops it just being mushy rubbish. Angel-Seeker is pure romance, with no proper plot at all - and both the romance stories annoyed me. One, because the Angel-Seeker heroine was initially stupid and irritating, even though she eventually and predictably learned her lesson and became a useful human being. The other, because the angel hero acted very selfishly and actually put his lover in continual danger without really thinking about the consequences. The whole theme was that love makes you take risks and do stupid things, but it annoyed me because I don't think being in love makes any wrong action excusable.
