Key of Light
Oct. 26th, 2025 10:38 amKey of Light is the first in the Keys trilogy by Nora Roberts.
I'm eagerly awaiting the final instalment of her Lost Brides trilogy next month, so thought I would dip into her back catalogue of contemporary fantasy trilogies - and I'm glad I did - though there are a *lot* of similarities with the Lost Brides series...
Young woman unexpectedly gets some money that's related to a mysterious house and has to complete a mystical quest to help people trapped by magic. Also meets a large hunky guy who helps her. Also includes an awesome dog, found family in a small town, and a creative protagonist wanting to start her own business...
But - I really enjoyed this. The audiobook was a lot of fun and a very easy listen. I liked all the characters - though the various men are all absolutely terrible (surprise kissing, insta-love, seeing a 'no' as a challenge...) and much of the romance aspect was a bit much for me.
Everyone is also unreasonably attractive. And, also much like the Lost Brides series, most of the book was the various characters getting to know each other, making entirely mundane plans about their futures, and not really working on the quest at all until right near the end.
But - again - I really enjoyed this! And I'm really looking forward to carrying on with the series.
