Last night, we went to see Bill Bailey's new show at the Haymarket - and it was pretty good overall.
The first few minutes were hilarious, and most of the second half was great - the rest was intermittently reasonably amusing, but some of it was also uncomfortable and problematical. So a mixed bag! It was also very mixed in terms of subject matter and didn't seem to have any kind of thematic throughline. He just jumped from one thing to the next without any real transitions, so it felt very bitty and scattershot.
But the man can play musical instruments! Wow - very impressive. And he's often extremely funny.
He's also very good at riffing off audience responses.
So, overall, a good outing, though not as solidly entertaining as I had hoped.
