The Liar's Knot

I read the first in the Rook and Rose series by MA Carrick not so long ago, and the 'story so far' section at the start of the sequel, The Liar's Knot, was very helpful in reminding me of the world and the characters.
And I really like the world and the characters - but there are so many factions and layers and hidden identities and different people with hard-to-remember names that I found it almost impossible to follow what was going on (perhaps not helped by listening to it rather than reading it in text format).
So, I'm afraid I gave up part way through.
But I would highly recommend this series if you like complex, intricate, multi-layered high fantasy and love a large cast of fascinating characters who are all playing several sides of a very complicated game.
