Robot Dreams
Apr. 2nd, 2024 06:07 pmAfter wanting to see Robot Dreams for some time, we finally got around to watching it a few days ago - and it was not really what we expected...
We thought it was a sweet, cozy tale about a friendship between a dog and a robot. What it turned out to be was a highly traumatic story about loss, forced separation, existential dread and the pain of broken relationships...
It kind of got to a better place by the end? But not really, in a lot of ways...
And there were a couple of things that really bugged me all the way through. The dog was called 'Dog' and the duck was called 'Duck' (were there really no other dogs or ducks in the entire city/world?), but the raccoon was called Rascal and the Crocodile was called Eddie...
Also, there was no dialogue in the film, which mostly worked fine. But there were definite moments where the fact that none of the characters spoke impacted on what happened in the story - and yet several of them also used telephones during the film (though we didn't see the conversations happen on screen).
So, yeah...
There were a fair few aspects I really liked - but it was very unpleasant in a lot of ways and I'm not sure the ultimate conclusion really made up for that.
