I was a bit apprehensive about going to see Operation Mincemeat, since it's a comedy and I don't always do so well with those.

But I was fascinated to see how the tale of a World War Two operation to deceive the Nazis about whether the Allied forces would be invading Sicily or Sardinia could translate to a comedy musical.

And the answer is - brilliantly!

It was a very impressive five-hander, with all five cast members on stage nearly the whole time, lots of quick costume changes (they all played multiple parts), very word-heavy songs, complicated physical comedy shenanigans with props, and several dance numbers.

And it was (mostly) awesome! I was in awe of one particular actor's ability to completely inhabit varied characters of both genders and wildly difference physicality. All of them committed fully to their performances and seemed to be having an excellent time doing the show.

As usual with word-heavy musicals, I wished I could make out the lyrics more clearly, but it was largely fine.

It also made me really cry at one point!

Highly recommended if you like silly musicals with an under-current of real emotion.
