Gwen and Art Are Not in Love by Lex Croucher is a highly entertaining romp of an adventure romance, set in psuedo-medi-eval times. It's about a lesbian princess betrothed to a gay knight and how they decide to navigate the various relationships in their lives.
It's very silly - but in a good way. And all the characters speak and behave in very modern ways - but that was fine once I'd given myself over to it. It has a lot of heart once it gets going, a lot of drama and excitement - both in action and in inter-relationships, as well as both inner and outer conflict.
My only (very slight) issue with it was that it's described as YA and the main characters are described as 17-19 years old, but that surprised me every time their ages were mentioned as they all came across as quite a bit older than that to me.
That aside, it was extremely fun with great characters, lots of humour and a surprising amount of depth. The ultimate conclusion had a considerable amount of wish fulfilment in terms of projected LGBTQ+ rights in the book's society - but I can live with that!
Highly recommended and I will definitely be looking for more books by this author.
