Treason: The Musical
Nov. 12th, 2023 04:39 pmLast night, we went to Alexandra Palace to see Treason: The Musical - a, you've guessed it, musical version of the story of the gunpowder plot.
Minuses:
I came out knowing very little more about the history of the gunpowder plot than I did going in, since the aspects of the plot relating to the actual events of that time weren't very clear.
There were a couple of performers whose words weren't very distinct (one of whom was Fawkes himself, who acted as the narrator, so that was an issue) so I often couldn't make out what they were saying.
The show occasionally had a little hint of desperation in its attempts to be a cross between Les Mis and Hamilton in its presentation.
Pluses:
The set was great, the music was great, the performances were great, there was a lot of commitment on the stage, there was a lot of emotion conveyed, some of the performers had really incredible voices - and overall, I really enjoyed it!
