Legends and Lattes

I was not surprised to discover that Travis Baldree, the author of Legends and Lattes, is a professional audiobook narrator, as he does a fantastic job of reading his own work.
And that work is also great! It's the story of Viv, an orc adventurer who hangs up her sword to open - a coffee shop! The almost complete lack of conflict and high level of logistical shop-running detail might have made the book really boring - but it's 'luvverly', as my dad would say.
I adored all the characters, I really enjoyed accompanying Viv on her business venture, and the way Baldree works in references to modern coffee shop culture (students taking up tables and not buying anything, iced drinks, named travel mugs, etc) is very entertaining.
When the eventual threat does manifest, it's shocking in its contrast to what has come before - but leads to a very satisfying conclusion, even though that did come an hour earlier than I was expecting, because there was a prequel short story included in the audio version (which was also really fun).
I have lined up several more audiobooks on my wish list because they are read by Travis Baldree, and I will definitely be listening to more of his own books, as soon as they become available.
