I previously read a book by Dinah Jefferies a few years ago and recognised the name when I spotted The Tea Planter's Wife in the local station book exchange, so I picked it up. And it's just the sort of book I'm into at the moment - rich, historical setting (1920s and 30s Ceylon), layered female protagonist beset by unexpected emotional trauma, plenty of family secrets to be revealed...
It got a bit overwrought and repetitive in the middle and the ultimate conclusion was very sad for pretty much everyone concerned (plus all the problems would have been entirely avoidable with some open communication and a lot more societal tolerance) but it was a good read overall. I'd definitely be happy to read more of this author's work if I come across it.
