On Sunday night, we went to the hilarious and wildly entertaining Mythos: Ragnarok at the Cockpit Theatre. It was a potted version of Norse Mythology, as performed by a bunch of professional wrestlers and was just as bananas as that makes it sound. The stomped about the wrestling ring/in-the-round stage (which was *very* squeaky and drowned out some of the dialogue), making dramatic speeches and goading each other into extremely well choreographed wrestling bouts.

It was great - particularly the guy playing Loki, who turned out to be the guy who had created the whole thing and apparently usually played Odin (the usual Loki was ill). I thought he was perfect as Loki, so I think we lucked out, seeing the performance where lots of people swapped roles.

Very silly, but also very impressive - and lots of fun.

I also listened to The Councillor by EJ Beaton this week, which is about a young woman tasked with choosing the next ruler of her realm from the leaders of the four main cities, when her mentor and friend, the previous queen is murdered. There was lots of intrigue as she attempted to navigate the intricacies of the situation whilst also investigating who might have committed the murder. There was also a theme of oppression, since there was an underclass of citizens being persecuted because of an old conflict with a possibly returning uber-baddie. I liked the protagonist and was invested in her various (very high stakes) conflicts and tribulations, but it was also all a bit complicated, with too many factions and quite a drawn-out narrative. There's a follow-up out soon, but I don't think I'll carry on with the series.
