The Final Empire

I finally got around to trying the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson - starting with the first volume, The Final Empire.
It's a rich fantasy world, peopled by a range of interesting characters - particularly the two protagonists, Kelsier and Vin. I liked the detail of the magic system, and the heist-style plot was initially engaging. But it's a very chunky book, and only the first in quite a long series. And I gradually started to lose interest and skim, which is never a good sign, and not a type of reading experience I enjoy.
I decided I wasn't interested enough to carry on with the rest of the series, so I stopped reading just over half way through.
