I listened to the audiobook version of One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews, the third in the Innkeeper Chronicles. I love the narrator - she really brings this vibrant, entertaining world to life. I love spending time with Dina, who struggles to run an intergalactic inn for a range of wild and wonderful guests, while trying to keep its true nature secret from the residents of the surrounding Texas subdivision.

In this instalment, the stakes are very high, as the remaining members of a persecuted alien race ask her to protect them while they obtain the means of their own salvation. Their gift to her in exchange - the answer to one question (which she intends to use to finally find her parents, who disappeared years before).

There's also the developing romance between Dina and wereworlf, Sean (yes, there's werewolf romance, but it's a good one!), and the introduction of Dina's sister and niece, who have been living off-world among vampires (yes, there are vampires, too, but it's honestly fine).

I really enjoyed the twists and turns of the story - though I was expecting an extended quest as Dina and Sean helped the aliens find the pieces of the macguffin they needed, rather than an extended siege, with most of the characters trapped inside the inn for a lot of the book. Also, quite a lot of the action happened off-page and was only reported to Dina later - or she was incapacitated and could only view the action remotely. So, that distanced the reader a bit, and removed a lot of Dina's agency. However, there was a riproaring climax, with Dina fully reasserting her power - plus a great hook for the next book in the series.

So, overall, definitely in the plus column, and I'll look forward to reading the rest.
