Last week, my brother encouraged me to watch Herself with him, and I'm very glad he did.
It tells the painful story of Sandra, who escapes her abusive husband and embarks on a project to build a house for herself and her two children.
It's about the importance of community, of asking for help, of working towards a better life, and of being honest about your struggles.
It's a difficult watch at times but well worth it, since the performances are amazing (always good to see Harriet Walter), the emotional rollercoaster is cathartic, and the messages are important.
I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about the ending, but this is not a world of neat bows, and perhaps that's the way it should be for this story to work.
