I saw a lot of posters and trailers for Weathering With You when it came out last year, but wasn't drawn to it enough to go and see it in the cinema. We finally got around to watching it this evening, and mostly enjoyed it.
It's a Japanese anime about a girl who can make the sunshine in a near-future Tokyo where the weather has gone crazy and it won't stop raining. The narrator and protagonist is a teen boy runaway who meets the girl and helps her make money by offering her services to individual people in the city.
The background art is gorgeous throughout, and the peripheral characters are fun and appealing. The main boy is a bit melodramatic and pathetic - but then he is 16 so I guess I can forgive him. Overall, it had a bit too much teen melodrama for my tastes, but there were some beautiful, quiet moments throughout, and a couple of minor details relating to one of the older characters that really hit home.
And, as I say - absolutely gorgeous to look at.
