Well, it's all
cholten99's fault, really (I find most things are, these days). He's been on at me to get an online journal ever since we met in January. I just couldn't see the point as I couldn't think of anything I'd use it for. In yet another discussion on the subject the other day, he told me that people generally use them for four main things:
1. Talking about day to day stuff they do - I have a physical book-type journal for that and I have no inclination to publish it online (though I suspect some life-commentary will leak onto this journal now I've got one).
2. Linking to interesting things they've seen on the internet - I don't tend to use the internet for that (though, again, I suspect I'll link to interesting stuff from here if I find anything).
3. Doing memes and quizzes - while these are often extremely cool, I can happily do them regardless of whether I have an online journal or not (though, again, I suspect I'll do them properly and post the results now I do have one).
4. Expounding in an interesting fashion on specific subjects they know a lot about - I can't think of anything I know much about that other people would find interesting (though
cholten99 says what I'm planning to do falls into this category, so I guess I'm going to be doing this one too).
Then, of course, a day after I had explained in great detail exactly why I don't need an online journal, I suddenly thought of something I could use one for! I read a lot, and I watch a fair few TV shows and films - and I really enjoy reviewing them. What's more, I've been feeling lately that my creative muscles are severely lacking in exercise, and that I wish I was writing more. Therefore, my brain said, why not write reviews of books, TV shows and films, and post them on an online journal?
So
cholten99 wins (dammit!), and here I am, posting on my brand new online journal for the first time...
