In response to [livejournal.com profile] corone's meme:

5 favourite books - this was soooooo hard, but I managed to narrow it down eventually:

- Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - How do I love thee? Let me count the ways: brilliant characters, classic storyline, clever wit, a hero to die for and a heroine who deserves him. This is a book I never get tired of, no matter how many times I read it.

- Magic's Pawn by Mercedes Lackey - I had trouble picking one from the 30 or so books I have by this author. This one was the first one I read, though, and is probably the one I go back to most often. I love the world she writes in, it's impossible not to get attached to her characters, and her lavish descriptions of both setting and action make every page an emotive experience.

- Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban by J K Rowling - This is by far the best of the series, in my opinion. The story has more scope and more depth than the previous two, but it's not overlong and overblown like the subesquent ones. Plus, I love Sirius and Lupin.

- Ever After by Elswyth Thane - This is my favourite of a series of seven historical romances, which chart the progress of one family from the late 1700s through to the Second World War. They are shamelessly romantic, but I will always love them because they were my grandfather's favourite books and he left his set to me when he died.

- The Runaway Jury by John Grisham - I love the range of characters, and it's just so clever.

If I could have a couple more, they would be Sailing To Sarantium by Guy Gavriel Kay and The Temp by Serena Macksey.

5 favourite comics/graphic novels/manga/anime - I had to add on this last category as otherwise I would only have had four. I plan to expand my reading of this kind of stuff, starting with the 14 manga books [livejournal.com profile] markwelham lent me last night!

- Fuzzy Knights - I have totally fallen in love with these. They're cute, clever and funny.

- Sandman series - In particular, the one where Dream and Delirium go in search of Destruction. The relationship between the two of them reminds me of me and my older brother.

- Watchmen - The first graphic novel I read, which showed me how much beauty and depth there can be in comics.

- 1602 - Familiar characters in an unfamiliar setting, both clever and gripping.

- Haibane Renmei - I wasn't expecting to like this, as anime had never really appealed to me, but the simplicity and beauty of these stories is very compelling. I even like the fact that none of it ever really explained.

5 books I haven't got round to yet:

- Gormenghast trilogy (looks like [livejournal.com profile] corone and I have similar plans)

- Lemony Snicket series (people keep recommending them to me)

- Mindstar Rising series by Peter F Hamilton (I enjoyed the Night's Dawn trilogy, but I need a break from Hamilton before I embark upon these)

- Kafka's Diaries (I feel guilty about reading them because I know he never even wanted his fiction to be published, let alone his private diaires, but he's so interesting, I can't resist)

- Winnie Ille Pu (Winnie the Pooh in Latin - if I ever have the time, it should be really fun!)

I have all the Lemony Snicket books (I'm a huge fan)
you are welcome to borrow them.
Did you get through any Maison Ikkoku yet?

Thanks - Claire already volunteered your Lemony Snicket books, I just haven't had a chance to snaffle them yet! :o)

I'm still reading Fuzzy Knights at the moment - Maison Ikkoku is next, though I ought to try and finish Quicksilver before I get into anything else lengthy. Only 400 pages to go... I have nothing against long books, and this one is really cool, it's just difficult to stay focused when there are so many other cool things lined up behind it!

Attention span - another thing I have in common with Dog!
