My eleventh new game of the Center Parcs trip was Maori, which I very much enjoyed. You have a player board, on which you place tiles to create islands, drawn from a central supply. But the mechanic for how you obtain tiles is complex and interesting, as it involves moving a canoe around the grid of tiles and then paying from your supply of shells to be able to select the ones in the middle, if required. Trees have to always be the correct orientation, huts double the points score of your trees, flower circles are difficult to complete but lucrative, and blank spaces or unfinished islands at the end result in minus points. So, there's a lot to think about, but it's a lot of fun, and also very pretty. I would definitely like to play this again at some point.
