Having reread Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell for the podcast recently, I went on to reread the companion novel, Carry On, mostly because the sequel came out at the end of last year and I wanted to remind myself of what happened previously before reading that.

I just reread my review from April 2018 and I mostly agree with it still - Carry On doesn't really work as what it purports to be, and it read very much more like fanfiction than it does a novel (which is very impressive and cleverly done, but also introduces some flaws).

But I still enjoyed the book overall and I'm very much looking forward to continuing Simon Snow's story in Wayward Son.
