This month's Novel Predictions book is This Mortal Coil by Emily Suvada, which is a post-apocalyptic YA adventure, following Katerina on her quest to decode her father's cure to the pandemic that has forced most humans underground. I found the initial setup quite intriguing, and I liked Katerina as a character. Plus, there's lots of intrigue around her father's past and how it ties into the childhood of the solider he sends to protect her on her journey. But my interest wasn't really maintained throughout the book, and I started wanting to skim towards the end. It was helped by the overly dramatic intonation of the audiobook narrator, who made even the smallest events into THE TENSEST AND MOST EXCITING THING EVER, which got very wearing after a while.
This certainly isn't a bad book, but it just didn't really engage me enough for me to want to carry on with the rest of the series.
