Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo completes the fantasy heist story that began in Six Of Crows, following our band of petty criminals in their quest for revenge against the merchants and gang bosses who screwed them over in the first book. It starts pretty much exactly after the first book finished, and sees our heroes embarking on another ambitious and complicated plot to make their fortunes and come out on top in the cut-throat world they live in.

There's more backstory, more emotional angst, more relationship drama, more nail-biting derring-do, as well as a fair few red herrings, switcheroos, sleights of hand, feats of acrobatic skill, and twisty turns to the plot. I enjoyed getting to know the characters even better, as well as wincing over their attempts at getting closer to each other. How it all comes together in the end is very clever and very satisfying. And, while I would have liked a happy ending for everyone, I think that would have been too easy a route, so I can live the outcome.

The audiobook version was just as good as the first one, though some narrators are better than others in the cast. My least favourite narrator played my favourite character, though, so I was at least invested in listening to his chapters!
