Angel failure

I started The House of Shattered Wings by Aliette de Bodard a few days ago, but gave up about 150 pages in. I like the premise - murder mystery in an early 20th century Paris that's suffering fallout from a war between rival factions of fallen angels - but I just couldn't seem to get into it. I'm not sure it's the book's fault - I just think I'm not in the right frame of mind for it at the moment. The text in my version was very small, which didn't help, and the gradual revealing of information about the background and characters just felt too slow. As it's the start of the series, it didn't seem worth my while to struggle through to the end of this one, just to decide not to carry on with the rest. Sorry, book - it's definitely me, not you!
