Yesterday, I finished listening to Impulse by Steven Gould, the third in the Jumper series of books. This one is set 17 years after the second, and it follows Davey and Millie's daughter Cent (short for Millicent) as she goes to school for the first time, aged sixteen.

Of course, she develops the ability to jump around the same time, which makes this an interesting and fresh take on the standard coming-of-age high school story. I very much liked Cent as a character, and it was fun listening to her make her way in the real world, after leading an extremely sheltered life.

Her experiments with jumping were very clever, and added a whole new dimension to the ability, and the other characters at the school were well-drawn and sympathetic.

It all got a bit out of hand towards the end, and then Cent spent a whole chapter just summarising the events of the book for her parents, which was a bit tedious. But, overall, I really enjoyed this and I'll look forward to the next one.
