Spotlight tells the story of the Boston Globe exposing the paedophilia cover-up within the Catholic Church in 2002. It's very well made and has an excellent cast (Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, John Slattery, Stanley Tucci, Billy Crudup). Mark Ruffalo seems to have de-aged by about twenty years for the part somehow. It kept me interested throughout, and I thought the depiction of the investigation was really well done - lots of boring grunt work that only paid off at the end. It was all very muted, though - the colours were all brown and grey - and the way it was shot was subdued and remote. Definitely a good film, and an important story, but I wouldn't have said it merits the enormous accolades it has received.
