First Reviews of 2016
Jan. 3rd, 2016 02:09 pmDave and I watched And Then There Were None over New Year, completing the third episode yesterday. Awesome cast, but not exactly jolly. It kept me mostly gripped throughout (though the second episode felt a little padded) and I definitely wanted to know the explanation. I liked the way the viewer's opinion of the characters was manipulated as it went on, by the slow reveal of all their backgrounds, but they were all so awful by the end that it was difficult to know who we were supposed to be rooting for - if anyone. Still, great performances all round, and well-made, if a little grim.
Last night, we went to Derren Brown's Miracle show. It was all very impressive, it somewhat predictable - I mean, you know he's going to get everything right, because he always does. There were a couple of bits that were rather uncomfortable for me to watch, but there was a whole section in the second half that re-enforced a lot of the good psychological lessons I've learned in recent times, which was lovely. He's still very much got his stage presence, and he's certainly very clever - I just didn't find any of the show all that surprising.
