Silly viewing and serious reading
Dec. 5th, 2015 02:58 pmOn Tuesday, we went to see The Play That Goes Wrong at the Duchess Theatre. It was very, very silly. The cast did an excellent job of entertainingly bad acting, and the litany of problems they faced were very well designed and executed. I thought the fight between the two female cast members towards the end was a bit over the top and rather unnecessary, but the growing despair of the director, and the reactions of Trevor the tech guy were excellent.
A while ago, Dave bought me a big box from The Book People, which was all themed around writing. It contained a very nice journal, a creative writing coursebook (which is proving fun), a six-month subscription to Writing Magazine (the January issue of which was excellent) and The Insider's Guide to Publishing by Katherine Lapworth, Kevin McCann and Tom Green. This latter tome contains a huge amount of really useful and interesting information about both traditional and self-publishing. Whichever route I want to take with my novel, I now have a step-by-step guide to going about it, which is great. However, the whole process seems so complicated, such hard work, and so fraught with potential problems that I'm really not sure I want to bother...
