Last night, Dave and I finally got around to watching Her, which is about a man who falls in love with his operating system.  As Dave said, it turned out to be quite a hard sci-fi concept wrapped up in a romantic drama, which made it rather more interesting and complex than we had expected.  It actually made me quite uncomfortable in places, and I found it generally unsettling and a bit scary.  The near-future setting was very effectively portrayed, with various things just slightly different (eg clothes), which put everything slightly off kilter because it was both familiar and alien.  I'm not sure I can say I really enjoyed the film, but I certainly found it thought-provoking.

This morning, I finished my latest audiobook, which was The Shadow Cabinet by Maureen Johnson, the latest in her Shades of London series.  It took me a little while to get into it, and it seemed to end in a very similar situation to where it began in a lot of ways (not much in the way of actual resolution), but the middle section was really interesting, and I do like all the characters a lot.  It seems clear there will be more to come in this series, and I shall certainly listen to the next one when it comes out, especially since two of my favourite characters are now in the loop, in terms of knowing about the ghosts, etc, so I'm hoping they'll be in it a bit more.
