The Dead Shepherd
Mar. 23rd, 2015 05:09 pmWe went to see an excellent play at the White Bear Theatre (they never disappoint) on Friday night. It was called The Dead Shepherd and it told an interesting version of the events leading up to the death of Christopher Marlowe. It conjectured about his work as a spy, his relationship with Shakespeare (and various other people around at the time), and the effect his death had on Shakespeare's own writing. The best word I can think of to describe the play is "unrelenting" - it built suspense and tension throughout and had no interval and, even though I knew what was going to happen in the end, it was still shocking and the way its consequences were presented was clever and intriguing. All the performances were excellent - and there were only about three times as many people in the audience as there were in the cast, so it was quite an intimate experience.
