Final reviews of 2014
Dec. 30th, 2014 09:53 amTwo quick game reviews before I do the stats for this year.
Camel Up - bought for Dave by my brother and definitely the best success of new games at Christmas. It's a hilarious camel racing game, where the movements of the camels are determined entirely randomly, it's more than possible for one way back to come through to win unexpectedly, and the actual gameplay is on betting which camel will win each leg of the race and which will come first and last overall. Tremendous fun, especially since I don't normally like betting games. We played it three times over two days, and it had really different outcomes each time and everybody loved it.
Discworld: Ankh-Morpork - I'm not sure about this one. You have a secret winning condition and are aware what the potential other winning conditions are, so it's possible to try and prevent other people from getting ahead. But I got a series of cards that allowed me to go from nowhere to victory in one turn, which meant the game was over quite quickly and nobody really could have stopped me. There's fun to be had in the nature of the cards, and I think there's a lot more strategy involved than we figured out on a first play, so I'm reserving judgement until I get to know it better.
