Given the current state of my brain (doing bonkers hours at work for reasons passing understanding - don't ask), the easiest thing seemed to be to just move straight on to Joanna Trollope's Sense and Sensibility.

It was a quick, easy, and pretty enjoyable read - but it still seemed rather meaningless, much the same as Northanger Abbey.  Just transplanting the plot and characters wholesale into a modern setting without a twist to make it interesting results in a good story with likeable characters that are entirely familiar but somehow reduced by the lack of Austen's writing.

Much as I fall into the trap of getting enraged when people mess with stuff I like in adaptations, an adaptation has to be just that - adapted in some way, otherwise what's the point?
