Guardians of the Galaxy
Aug. 5th, 2014 10:07 amI was very unsure about Guardians of the Galaxy when it was first announced. I thought it could have gone either way - awesome or awful. Then the reviews started coming out and my hopes rose. As is usual with things, it actually fell somewhere between the two extremes, but much closer to the awesome than the awful. It was a lot of fun, with some laugh-out-loud moments, some great characters and a lot of stellar (in both senses of the word) action.
The bad guys chewed the scenery a bit too much, the plot was bobbins, and there were a few too many explosions and minion-kllings for my taste, but overall I enjoyed it. Rocket and Groot were particularly entertaining.
So, that's three films in three days - and the one thing they all had in common, which I think has been lacking in my cinema-going experiences of late - was *fun*. They all had sharp scripts with a healthy smattering of humour, and didn't take themselves too seriously, which is always a good thing in my book.
