All I seem to be doing recently is reviewing Jack Reacher books!
Persuader is actually the next but one in the series, since I got the order wrong and skipped one by accident, but there's rarely any arc plot across books, so it wasn't a problem.
Surprise, surprise - a huge, honking co-incidence occurs at the start of the book, which thrusts Reacher into the middle of a ridiculously dangerous situation in which he kills lots of people, gets beaten up and thrown off a cliff into the sea, and eventually prevails, saving the life of a female DEA agent in the process. Not quite as many instances of "[whoever] said nothing" this time, but still enough to stand out.
Even though it's basically the same plot over and over again, I'm still enjoying the ride, though! Plus, there was a change in voice for this book - suddenly if was in the first person, rather than the third.

Date: 2013-11-01 07:52 am (UTC)Having now listened to several of the books, though, I can now understand better why fans were so annoyed by the casting - since Reacher is 6 foot 5, heavily muscled, and blond...
Also, I don't think the film got the humour quite right - Cruise's Reacher was a bit too cold, but he's actually quite a sweet guy under all the violence.
