Continuing with John Wyndham, I listened to an audio version of Chocky recently and very much enjoyed it.
It's an interesting little book, exploring lots of different issues, with perhaps a less than flattering view of women on occasion, but generally very good.
It made me want to re-watch the 80s TV show, which I remember with startling clarity from when I was just a nipper. I remember enjoying the follow-up series, Chocky's Children, as well, though it's not often a good idea to revisit things that had such an impact on your childhood - just in case they're really dreadful!
On a separate note, there won't be any book reviews for a while, since I've fallen down the fanfiction rabbit hole and don't see myself emerging any time soon.

Date: 2013-10-14 06:52 pm (UTC)On 'things you loved as a child that are massively disappointing when you're an adult': 'Into the Labyrinth'. I adored it so much when I was about 7. It was the highlight of my week and I remembered it so fondly. I was overjoyed when they finally released it on DVD but I should have left it as a happy memory. It was awful. Bad writing, bad acting, terrible production :(
But I still love it, because I remember how magical it was to my 7 year old self.
Have fun down the fanfiction rabbit hole. It's been a while since I was down there. I miss it.
Feel free to rec any particularly good ones (they might be in fandoms I'm familiar with).
