The World's End
Jul. 28th, 2013 08:33 amYesterday, we went to see The World's End at the Odeon Camden (after a fun and pretty successful shopping trip round the markets). It was painful, poignant, ridiculous and funny by turns, building into quite a well-rounded, entertaining experience overall. I really rather enjoyed it, which was quite surprising, considering it was mostly about a very broken man, desperately trying to recapture the (imagined) lost glory days of his youth. The cast was great, the sci-fi madness was just the right side of utterly bonkers, and it had enough heart for the characters to be sympathetic, rather than just pathetic. Plus, for some reason, the last two minutes had me laughing uncontrollably all the way out of the cinema (not sure why - the very end just really tickled me).
The plan afterwards was to appropriately go for dinner at The World's End pub round the corner, but it was heaving and very loud, so we went for more civilised (and incredibly yummy) sushi instead!
