New Year, new reviews, new blog...
Jan. 6th, 2013 11:32 amI have just successfully imported my whole LiveJournal account onto DreamWidth and will now be using that as my primary blogging site.
I'll be cross-posting to LJ as a back-up and for those who still read my journal there, but my main blog will now be - http://alobear.dreamwidth.org/
So, first review of 2013!
Simon H and I went to see Midnight's Children yesterday, and I'm still not entirely sure what I thought of it. It was long and it was slow. The magic powers of the children seemed almost entirely incidental - they weren't really used for anything (apart from two uses of the vanishing basket that I guess were quite important), and only really served the purpose of linking certain characters together when otherwise they wouldn't have had much (or any) interaction.
Simon and I both agreed that it could have been shorter and better paced, but that we weren't at any point wishing it would end sooner. We're both pretty sure we enjoyed it, but it's not a film we would go out of our way to recommend. So, I guess it was okay, but nothing special.
In other news, I have made a New Year resolution for the first time in ages! There are various books I've borrowed from people and then just sat on for months on end. So, I have made a pile of all the books I have that are not mine. When I finish my current book (hopefully today), I will take my next one from that pile. I will continue to do this until I reach a point when I don't want to read any of the books remaining in the pile. At that time, I will give them all back and move on with my life!
