Tina Turner Musical
Aug. 28th, 2022 04:57 pmI was a bit apprehensive going into this show, as I'm not a massive Tina fan - but it was really good!
Everyone in the cast was strong, the story was well told in an emotive way, and the singer playing Tina was really great.
The sound mix felt a little off - the music was so loud it drowned out the singers to a certain extent. Which was a shame, particularly in a show that's specifically about a singer. But overall, the musical numbers were well performed, and I liked the way the well-known songs were woven into the story to make them appropriate for each scene.
The woman playing Tina from the age of 17 through to 41 managed to convey her different looks, attitudes and situations brilliantly - though, oddly, after looking about 40 for the build-up to the climax, she somehow went back to looking about 25 for the finale, when she was wearing the classic Tina Turner wig. Her enthusiasm for the role definitely shone through and she did an excellent job.
So, very glad I went in the end!
