False Hearts
Jun. 14th, 2019 03:44 pmFalse Hearts by Laura Lam is a near-future set novel about conjoined twins who escape an anti-technology cult and later get embroiled (now they are separated) in the activities of an organised crime gang who are using psychedelic drugs to control people.
The storyline is two-fold - one thread is one sister recording their history from a jail cell, while the other follows the second sister as she works undercover with the police to get her sister pardoned.
It's an interesting world and I liked the characters. There was a lot of exposition towards the end, explaining the plans and machinations of the bad guys, and also what actually happened before the book started, to kick the events off. It also got a bit wibbly in the denouement and the very end felt a bit abrupt, as some of the relationships that had been set up along the way didn't get much of a pay-off.
Still, it was entertaining enough and I do plan to read more from this author.
