We went to see X-Men: Dark Phoenix last night and I thought it was pretty good. Sophie Turner has certainly developed as an actress and made the most of the opportunity to show more range than she often got to do as Sansa Stark. While there was spectacle and fighting, it also focused a lot on emotion and character, which is always a plus in my book. There was unexpected trauma and interesting allegiance reversals. It all looked absolutely gorgeous and the special effects were phenomenal. There wasn't much levity (if any), which I usually look for in a superhero movie, but it also didn't feel dreary or depressing. It was involving and emotive and well-crafted.

It also led to a fascinating adventure in faulty memory. If you had asked me yesterday what I thought of the other three X-Men prequel movies, I would have said First Class was okay, Days of Future Past was really good and Apocalypse was terrible. But this morning I dug out my review of each of them from when I saw them in the cinema - and apparently I thought First Class was excellent, Days of Future Past I 'didn't dislike' but had mixed feelings about, and Apocalypse was really enjoyable. I think I'm going to have to watch them all again to check - and probably end up having completely different reactions to them on second viewing!
