House of Burlesque Saturday Speakeasy
Apr. 29th, 2019 11:31 amSaturday night saw me at Sway near Holborn in a corset, New Rock boots and pirate coat, for House of Burlesque's Saturday Speakeasy.
Trixie and Gracie were in evidence, greeting patrons, and I got to admire them all throughout the pre-show period, as we chose seats right next to their spot. I had fond memories of last time I was there, when I got them to pose for an awesome picture with Bear.
Tempest Rose was hosting, which was a relief, as I'd had a less than pleasant experience with another host of the show on a previous visit. She opened with her song about alcohol and I was worried that the whole evening would be acts we'd seen before. And about half of it was - though I'm always happy to watch Trixie and Gracie do their army number, and the two male performances were equally entertaining a second time around.
Additionally, though, there were two newer members of the team who both did excellent acts that were new to me - one of them poured water all over herself from a giant Union Jack teapot, which was a highlight. And the final, fireworks-themed number was excellent. I also got to pop one of Gracie's cherries, which was another great moment I wouldn't have missed.
Add in some delicious wine and some excellent company, as well as a very good dinner after the show, and it was a marvellous evening out. Go me, and my developing ability to plan things spontaneously less than 24 hours beforehand!
