Both my latest DVD rentals turned out to be unexpectedly depressing, so not a good couple of weeks for happy endings.
Somewhere In Time is a fairly dreadful 80s time travel movie, which sees Christohper Reeve imagining himself back to the 1920s to meet an actress played by Jane Seymour. They share a wonderful day and then he is pulled back to the present, where he essentially starves to death trying to get back to her. Yay.
Bridge To Terabithia tells the story of two bullied kids finding purpose in life by creating an imaginary kingdom in the woods behind where they live. All is progressing entertainingly until the boy goes off without the girl for the day and returns home to discover she has drowned in the creek in his absence. There's a supposedly hopeful conclusion where he introduces his younger sister to the magic kingdom, but the tragedy was rather too abrupt for me to get over in time to appreciate that. Yay again.
