The Last Colony review
Jun. 26th, 2009 08:32 pmThe Last Colony by John Scalzi continues the adventures of John Perry, a man who lived 75 years on Earth before being transferred into a superhuman body in order to serve in the Colonial Defence Forces out in space. This book tells the story of his time as the leader of a new colony, and the way in which he safeguards it from both friend and foe.
I've always been fond of colony-building stories, and this is a particularly good one, with a range of interesting peripheral characters, lots of political and military intrigue, and a very personable narrator. It claims to be the last in the series, but I know there has since been another one, which I plan to buy in audio format to listen to at the gym.
