Blackpool - Disc 2
Jul. 19th, 2006 09:58 pmThe technology gods didn't want me to watch the last episode of Blackpool today.
We have lost our DVD remote, and there are no arrow buttons on the machine itself, so you can load the disc, but not choose an episode. So, I tried playing it on Dave's PC and the sound kept skipping. Then, I tried my PC and it told me rather superciliously that it doesn't play DVDs, thank you very much.
I was staving off a serious attack of heat rage, when the answer came to me in a flash of chilled fruit juice inspiration!
Our DVD player has funky 20x fast forward capability, so I loaded the disc, pressed play and then fast forwarded through the other two episodes in six minutes flat! Go me.
Anyway...
Disc 2 wasn't as good as Disc 1. I think the novelty of the singing had worn off, and the story got gradually seedier as it progressed. Then David Tennant's character compromised his professional morals to get the girl and I couldn't decide if it was the right thing to do or not. Would it have been better for him to pursue the murderer at the expense of his and Natalie's future happiness? Or, since it turned out that it wasn't actually the guy he thought did it, and it was actually murder in the defence of another, was he right to give up on the investigation? The fact that he really thought Ripley did it, and let him go, bothered me, and kind of ruined the happy ending.
Still, overall, it was innovative and intriguing, well acted by all concerned and an interesting story.
